WordPress 2.8 or Baker has been released is ready to download. As Matt points out in the official blog, 790+ bugs have been squashed and several improvements have been made in favor of theme/plugin/widget usability, compatability issues and for speed. WordPress 2.7.1: Automatic Upgrade

WordPress 2.7.1 has been released today with 68 ticket fixes.

The coolest thing is that I got to use the automatic upgrade feature that came with WordPress 2.7. No fuss any more. Just click on upgrade (Tools > Upgrade), wait, and you are done. :D Kudos to the WordPress development team. They do warn about backing up your database and files though; just to be in the safer side. And this automatic upgrade thingy is available only in WordPress 2.7 onwards.

Even though I am a bit late to join the bandwagon, I’ve finally upgraded to WordPress 2.7. Up until now it feels awesome even though my theme does not support many cool 2.7 features (e.g., comment threading, pagination etc.).

I just found this awesome post by Ozh on the evolution of WordPress, which shows the change in the interface starting from 0.7.1 to WordPress 2.7. It’s amazing to see how far WordPress has gone in just 5 years !!!

WordPress 2.6.2 released

WordPress 2.6.2 has been released today following the recent alarms on possible dangers due to SQL column truncation and weaknesses of the mt_rand() function, credits to Stefan Esser. Apparently, random numbers generated by mt_rand() are not so random; and theoretically, an attacker can use this exploit to reset another user’s randomly generated password. Stefan Essar is expected to post on the details soon.

WordPress 2.7, a major version, will also appear in next few months.

WordPress 2.6.1 have been released today with some minor fixes, targeting mostly international users. A full list of fixes can be found here.

I am quite content with 2.6 and wondering whether I really need to update at all.

WordPress 2.6, code named Tyner, has been released today, one month before the schedule, and is available for download. A nice intro from Matt discussing the latest features is available in the WordPress development blog.

194 bug fixes and many more smaller tweaks

WordPress 2.5.1 released

WordPress 2.5.1 have been released today with some major and minor fixes, as well as improvements. There is supposedly one security fix for a scary security hole completely unknown to the general people. But I am curious anyhow.

As for me, I didn’t take much time before jumping into the upgrading bandwagon. I always love new stuff.
